DeKalb Schools Has A New Superintendent (05/14/2015)
May 14, 2015 – Dr. Stephen Green, superintendent of Kansas City Public Schools in Missouri, will become DeKalb Schools’ next superintendent on July 1 of this year. Earlier this year, he was recognized for his achievements by being named “Superintendent of the Year” by his peers, the Missouri Association of School Administrators.
New Superintendent In Our Very Near Future (05/08/2015)
May 8, 2015 - On Wednesday, the school board met again and are moving forward with a list of highly qualified candidates. Nelson Mullins, the district’s outside counsel, has a great deal of experience with superintendent searches and will step in to close the process. A list of 1 to 3 superintendent finalists’ names will be released in the “very near future”.
Superintendent Search Update (05/03/2015)
May 3, 2015 – The DeKalb County Board of Education met this weekend, at a location near the Atlanta airport to interview candidates to replace outgoing superintendent Michael Thurmond. School Board Chairman Melvin Johnson said in a press release that the School Board has narrowed down the list of applicants

April 24, 2015 – The Community Liaison Group identified their top candidates to be brought before the Board Of Education for consideration for an interview. The Board Of Education reviewed candidates and selected the top candidates for the first round of interviews. We are very much looking forward to the first round of interviews and taking the next step to announcing the new superintendent in late May to early June.

April 15, 2015 – The DeKalb Schools superintendent application deadline passed on April 10th and PROACT Search received applications from 120 candidates.

March 9, 2015 - At the March 2nd board meeting, PROACT presented a Superintendent Position Profile and Marketing Plan for recruiting.
Community Liaison Group
The community engagement portion is complete and the Superintendent Search Liaison group convened for it's first meeting last Monday (March 2). As PROACT describes it, the liaison group meeting was a passionate 2 hour discussion over procedures, protocols and next steps.

Superintendent Search Update (01/12/2015)
PROACT gave a superintdent search update. Since December, they have been working with DeKalb Schools Chief of Staff, Ramona Tyson, and her staff to identify key members of the community as well as identify locales, times and schedules for public engagement sessions. Dozens of community meetings are being scheduled for the first two weeks in February. PROACT is also working with the central office to put together an online survey.

In the 12/08/2014 Superintendent Search - search Firm RFQ discussion, the board agreed to bring in PROACT (the only search firm to respond to the second RFQ).
Only 4 search firms responded, so a second RFP will be issued.

At the September 8 2014 Board Meeting, we learned that on August 21 2014 an RFP for a national search firm was issued. The proposal deadline was Sept 16. Between now and the Oct 6 board meeting, the school board will conduct interviews with a list of finalist search firms picked by the administration.
April 1, 2014
At the April 1 2014 Board Meeting, the board announced their plans to commence a superintendent search. The current Superintendent, Michael Thurmond, intends on completing the 2014-2015 school year, and the new Superintendent will start sometime in the summer of ’15.
